Getulio Alviani

Getulio Alviani ( born September 5, 1939 in Udine, Italy ) is an Italian painter, object artist, representative of Op Art and kinetic art.

Life and work

Since his childhood Alviani showed great talent for design and geometric drawings. He began his education in Venice at the local art school, but soon had little interest in his studies, and instead began to study classical masterpieces afternoon in Venice's museums. He also started with small jobs for local architects and artists as color etchings. His first artistic work was the "wires", inspired by electrical transmission lines.

He was fascinated by polished aluminum surfaces, which he saw in a factory in which he worked: after further polishing and abrasion of the surfaces they were to his landmark " Superfici a testura vibratile " ( " Swinging texture surfaces" ), the got him international recognition.

Its aluminum surfaces he presented in 1961 in Zagreb at the exhibition " Nove Tendencije " from, along with other artists similar approaches were: exploring the possibilities of a dynamic interaction between art and the viewer. He began a lively exchange of ideas with artists such as Julio Le Parc, Alberto Biasi, François Morellet and Enrico Castellani, and was active in the studios of the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel ( GRAV ) in Paris.

After moving to Milan in 1963, he became friends with Piero Manzoni and Lucio Fontana, who was very interested in his work and some of its "Surface " bought. He also worked with other famous artists such as Max Bill and Josef Albers. In 1964 he was invited to the Venice Biennale to exhibit in a room with Enrico Castellani. In 1968 he participated in the documenta 4 in Kassel.

In 1965 he participated in the exhibition " The Responsive Eye " at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in part, together with the world's most famous artists of kinetic art. His work was so successful that they MoMA as the title image for the next exhibition of the museum: ( " The New Acquisitions " ) was voted "The New Acquisitions ".

In the 1970s, he traveled to South America, and was entrusted by Jesús Rafael Soto on request with the direction of the Museum of Modern Art of Ciudad Bolívar. He was again participants in the Venice Biennale in 1984, 1986 and 1993.

Since 2000, he is in many important exhibitions: Milan Triennial, Kunsthaus Graz, Siena Palazzo delle Papesse, in Rome, at the Académie de France, Buenos Aires Biennale, the traveling exhibition " light, movement and Programming", in the important German museums and the Rome Quadrennial represented.
