Gevaş (formerly Vostan ) is a town and a district in Turkey. It belongs to the province of Van in eastern Anatolia and lies. Gevaş is located in the west of the province on the southern shore of Lake Van, and is bordered to the west by the province of Bitlis. The district has 29 211 inhabitants Gevaş, the city 10,366 (as of 2011 ). The county Gevaş also includes part of Lake Van with Akdamar Island. The city lies between Lake Van and Mount Artos ( 3650 m), which is part of the Southeastern Taurus Mountains.

The name Vostan (actually Vostikan ) is a title that the Sassanid military governors were wearing. This ruled out the former Armenian province of the Sassanid Empire of the City Gevaş. So the name of the title was transferred to the city.
