Gil Stratton

Gil Stratton ( born June 2, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, † October 11, 2008 in Toluca Lake, California ) was an American actor and sportscaster.

Career

Gil Stratton started his career as a 19 - year-old in the Broadway musical " Best Foot Forward." He received his first major film role in 1943 in " Girl Crazy alongside Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland with which he sang the duet" Embraceable You ". In 1953 he was hired for Stalag 17 by Billy Wilder. In addition to the Oscar-winning William Holden, he played the role of stuttering narrator Harvey "Cookie" Cook and left a lasting impression.

Throughout his long career, Gil Stratton appeared in over 40 films and numerous television productions. Until the 1990s, he also worked as a sports reporter and announcer for football stadiums. Among other things, he reported in 1960 for CBS by the Olympic Games in Rome.

In his retirement, he supported charity events and collected money among other things, for the Henry Mayo Hospital in Newhall. There, a neonatal unit was named after him in recognition of his services. He also taught at the California State University Northridge in specialist radio and television. Stratton died on 11 October 2008 at the age of 86 years.
