Gilbert Sheldon (Bishop of Steubenville)

Gilbert Ignatius Sheldon (born 20 September 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA) is Bishop Emeritus of Steubenville.

Life

Gilbert Ignatius Sheldon received on 28 February 1953, the ordination to the priesthood for the Diocese of Cleveland.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 12 April 1976 Titular Bishop of Taparura and Auxiliary Bishop of Cleveland. He received his episcopal consecration of the Bishop of Cleveland, James Aloysius Hickey, on 11 June of the same year; Co-consecrators were Joseph Louis Bernardin, Archbishop of Cincinnati, and Clarence George Issenmann, Bishop Emeritus of Cleveland.

January 28, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Steubenville, and took on 31 May 2002 be on the grounds of age pre- mounted resignation.
