Gilgamesh (Band)

Gilgamesh was a British progressive rock band of the 1970s. The jazz-rock oriented group was part of the Canterbury scene.

History

Gilgamesh was founded in 1972 by keyboardist Alan Gowen. The other members were Mike Travis (drums), Rick Morcombe (guitar), Jeff Clyne (bass) and Alan Wakeman ( sax ).

After some changes in 1975 they got a record deal and released their debut album in the cast Gowen, Travis, Phil Lee (guitar ), Steve Cook ( bass) and Peter Lemer as a second keyboardist.

Mid-1975 founded Alan Gowen and Dave Stewart of the group Hatfield and the North, the new band National Health, Gilgamesh, and was disbanded shortly thereafter.

In 1977, Gowen National Health to call Gilgamesh back to life. The second album of the band was born in 1978 in the occupation Gowen, Lee, Trevor Tomkins (drums) and Hugh Hopper ( bass). Then Gilgamesh broke up for good.

2000 appeared the album Arriving Twice with previously unreleased material of Gilgamesh from the years 1973-75 at Cuneiform Records.
