Gillian Armstrong

Gillian Armstrong ( born December 18, 1950 in Melbourne) is an Australian film director.

Life

Armstrong was trained in set and costume design at Swinburne College, and film studies at the Australian Film and Television School in Sydney. She worked as a production assistant, editor and an assistant director. In 1970, she began making short films and documentaries.

1979 produced in Australia their first full-length feature film " My Brilliant Career" with the then-unknown Judy Davis. As in other movies Armstrong a woman is portrayed here that does not want to be hampered by strict norms of society itself. The film won numerous awards.

From 1984, Armstrong turns in both the U.S. and in her native Australia. In the 1990s, an emphasis on literary adaptations.
