Giovanni Andrea Scartazzini

Giovanni Andrea Scartazzini ( born December 30, 1837 in Bondo GR, † February 10, 1901 in Fahrwangen ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman.

Life

Giovanni Andrea Scartazzini was born on December 30, 1837 in Bondo in the canton of Grisons, the son of Bartolomeo Scartazzinis and his wife Clara Picenoni. 1856 took him to the Basel Mission House and from 1863 to 1865 he studied theology. On July 11 of this year he received his ordination in Bern. In the same year he took over a parish representative office in Twann, 1867, he became pastor in Abländschen. Two years later he moved to Melchnau and went in 1871 to Churchill to be a teacher of Italian at the Grisons canton school. In 1874 he became a headmaster of a private school in Walzenhausen, but the following year he went as pastor to Soglio GR. It was only on July 3, 1876 took him in Chur on the Evangelical Synod Raetian. This was an indispensable condition to take over a parish in the Free State of the Three Leagues, but on the other hand Scartazzini had already been ordained. The population in Soglio did not agree with their new pastor. As a result, he left the church in 1884 and moved to Fahrwangen / Meisterschwanden. The parish office he held until his death on February 10, 1901 at the age of 63 years.

A special name for Scartazzini became known as Dante researchers; he is one of the most important scientists of the 19th century, Dante and his works in this regard are still relevant today. He also had a great Dante library.
