Giovanni Antonio Amedeo Plana

Baron Giovanni Antonio Amedeo Plana ( born November 6, 1781 Voghera, † January 20, 1864 in Turin ) was an Italian astronomer and mathematician.

He was the nephew of the famous mathematician Joseph -Louis Lagrange. Plana worked long as a professor of astronomy and director of the observatory to Turin and as a Senator.

As a foreign member since 1827, he belonged to the Royal Society, with its Copley Medal he was awarded in 1834. In addition, the lunar craters Plana was named after him.
