Giovanni di Casali

John Casale (Giovanni di Casali ) ( † 1375 ) was a Franciscan monk, natural philosopher and theologian. He began his theological studies in Genoa, was lecturer at the Franciscan College in Assisi from 1335 to 1340 and at Cambridge from 1340 to 1341, where he became acquainted with the mathematical and physical ideas of the Oxford Calculators.

On his return to Italy, he taught in Bologna from 1346 to about 1352, where he ( 1505) Over-speed variable movement (Venice) wrote about 1346 treatise Quaestio de velocitate. This he delivered a graphical analysis of the motion of accelerating bodies.

His mathematical and physical ideas influenced the scientists of the University of Padua.

He was of Pope Gregory XI. appointed papal legate at the court of King Frederick II of Sicily.

He died about 1375th
