Giovanni Felice Sances

Giovanni Felice Sances (* around 1600 probably in Rome, † November 12, 1679 in Vienna) was an Italian composer and singer of the Baroque as well as court conductor in Vienna.

Giovanni Felice Sances was in his youth from 1609 to 1614 students at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome. In 1614 he was noted as a singer with an opera performance in Rome. Later visits to Bologna and Venice are detected. From 1636 he was a tenor in the Vienna Court Orchestra. 1649 was Sances Vice-Kapellmeister under Antonio Bertali and 1669 Kapellmeister, a position he held until his death.

During his lifetime was Sances as one of the famous composers in Europe. Includes his complete works, in addition to a few instrumental sonatas church music, more than 50 trade fairs, cantatas, three collections of motets (Venice, 1638, 1638, 1642), two collections of psalm settings (Venice 1643 and 1648), three requiems, three Te Deum, several collections with secular cantatas and eight stage works, the latter partly in collaboration by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and Antonio Draghi. Sances is regarded as one of the first who described a multipart vocal pieces work as a cantata.
