Giovanni Santi

Giovanni Santi ( * 1435 Colbordolo di Urbino; † August 1, 1494 in Urbino), was an Italian painter of the Umbrian school, and Father Raphael.

Activities he was in Urbino and the surrounding area, probably as a court painter to the Montefeltro. Influenced by Pietro Perugino and Melozzo da Forli, he was a rather simple and minimalist painter. Only the fact that he is the father of Raphael, saved him from oblivion. He is known primarily for his religious paintings and Madonnas. After 1490 he is said to have the Duke Francesco Gonzaga and his sister Elisabetta portrayed in Mantua. He is also known for its, Guidobaldo I. da Montefeltro dedicated rhyming chronicle, in which he also appreciates well-known contemporary painters.
