Giovanni Viola

Giovanni Viola ( born June 20, 1926 in San Benigno Canavese, Italy, † 7 July 2008) was an Italian football player at the position of the goalkeeper.

Career

In the club

Giovanni Viola began his career at Juventus, for which he already played in the youth department. His debut as a professional he was on 10 February 1946 at the age of 19 years, 2-0 against Atalanta Bergamo. Between 1946 and 1949, Viola was on several smaller clubs, first in the series B and later loaned to Serie A. For the season 1949/50, he returned to Juve, proceeding to take over from Lucidio Sentimenti. Viola was until 1957 goalkeeper of Turin and won three Italian championships with Juventus. The season 1958/59 spent the goalkeeper at Brescia Calcio in Serie B, after he ended his professional career. Later he worked for many years as a coach in the youth department of Juventus.

In the National Team

After four B- internationals 1949-1950 Giovanni Viola was to have denied without an 'A' game, called by coach Lajos Czeizler the Azzurri in the squad for the World Cup in Switzerland in 1954. In decision making game of Group 4, Italy with 1:4 lost to the host, he announced on June 23, 1954 his debut in the senior team. By 1956, Viola graduated eleven caps for the Azzurri.
