Girton, Cambridgeshire

Girton is a small town about three kilometers north- west of Cambridge in Cambridgeshire in England. The village with about 1600 households has about 4500 inhabitants.

History

The area around Girton was probably settled before the time of the Anglo-Saxons. The original name of the place Gretton what so much as place on gravel ( gravel engl. ) meant, since the first buildings were built along a gravel bank. The St. Andrews Church is one of the oldest existing buildings in the city.
