Giuseppe Casoria

Cardinal Giuseppe Casoria ( born October 1, 1908 in Acerra, Naples Province, Italy, † February 8, 2001 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Giuseppe Casoria received his theological and philosophical education in Acerra, Naples and Rome. He received his doctorate in both Catholic theology and in philosophy, civil law and canon law. He received on 21 December 1930, the sacrament of Holy Orders and worked from 1937 in various departments of the Roman Court. In the years 1962 to 1965, he participated as an expert at the Second Vatican Council, 1969, he was secretary of the Sacrament Congregation.

Pope Paul VI. appointed Giuseppe Casoria 1972 Titular Archbishop of Forum Novum, and gave him a bishop; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Utrecht, Bernard Cardinal Alfrink January, and the Archbishop of Armagh, Cardinal William Conway. A year later he appointed him Secretary of the Congregation for the Saints. Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1981 to the Pro - Prefect of the Sacrament Congregation, two years later he took him as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Giuseppe in Via Aurelio in the College of Cardinals, and entrusted him with the office of the Cardinal Prefect of the Sacrament Congregation. Cardinal Giuseppe Casoria put his offices in 1984 down for reasons of age. He was raised while retaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice in 1993. He died on 8 February 2001 in Rome and was buried in the crypt of his family in Acerra.
