Giuseppe Gamba

Cardinal Giuseppe Gamba ( born April 25, 1857 in San Damiano d' Asti, Province of Asti, Italy, † December 26, 1929 in Turin) was Archbishop of Turin and previously Bishop of Novara.

Life

Giuseppe Gamba received his philosophical and theological education in the seminary of Asti. He received on 18 September 1880, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and in the diocesan administration of the diocese of Asti.

In 1901 he received the appointment as Bishop of Biella. He received his episcopal consecration on 17 May 1902, the then Bishop of Asti, Giacinto Arcangeli.

1906 he was appointed by Pope Pius X. Bishop of Novara. Pope Pius XI. conferred on him in 1923 the management of the Archdiocese of Turin and took him three years later, on 20 December 1926 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the College of Cardinals to.

Giuseppe Gamba died on December 26, 1929 in Turin and was buried in the local cathedral.
