The Glärnisch is a south-west of Glarus ( Switzerland ) situated glaciated mountain range which belongs to the Glarus Alps. The famous mountain range lies exclusively in the canton of Glarus.

Geography

The Glärnisch consists of two Hauptgraten that are arranged in a V -shape and the flowing southwest to west Glärnischfirn enclose. The right of Glärnischfirns extending to the west ridge bears the Ruchen ( 2,901 m above sea level. M. ) and is bordered to the north by the Klöntal with the Klöntalersee. The running left to the southwest ridge is slightly higher and carries the Bächistock ( 2,914 m above sea level. M. ) and the unnamed highest point of Glärnisch ( 2'915 m above sea level. M. ).

The junction of the ridges (so called Schwander ridge ) provides for most hikers is no separate peaks, although it reaches as a double peak autonomy of 60 to 80 meters. The Schwander ridge is climbed as access to him to the northeast against Glarus upstream and most bestie own summit, the Vrenelisgärtli ( 2,904 m above sea level. M., with a prominent, visible from the lowlands, formerly permanent snowfield ).

Below the almost horizontal and walk without great difficulty Verbindungsgrates between Bächistock and Vrenelisgärtli (WS) are also located in the south-east wall several firn fields, including the Bächifirn and Guppenfirn extending transversely pull on tapes through the entire flank and give the Glärnisch from the east its characteristic appearance, in front of Guppenfirn we find the peak of Nidfurner tower. On the southeast slope of the mountain range located in two boilers of Oberblegisee ( 1'422 m above sea level. M. ) and the Guppensee ( 1,515 m above sea level. M. ), both without surface runoff.

Also to the north into Klöntal crashes the Glärnisch with partly very steep rock walls.

Glärnisch in a broader sense also includes the Vorderglärnisch ( 2,327 m above sea level. M., northeast of Vrenelisgärtlis ), which rises directly above the cantonal capital of Glarus, and the wheel ( 2'661 m above sea level. M. ) containing the compound conveys to the southwest lying Wicked Fulen.

Geology

The Glärnisch consists of limestones of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and is part of the Helvetic.

Increase

The normal, viable as a ski tour route of ascent leads through the valley to the Glärnischhütte Ross Matter of the Swiss Alpine Club in West southwest flank of the mountain ( 1,990 m above sea level. M. ) and then continue on the Glärnischfirn. From here, all three main peaks are reached, the easiest of Ruchen (L or T 4, but firn ); somewhat more demanding and are Vrenelisgärtli Bächistock (WS). Almost classic is the direct ascent of Glarus upper panel and the so-called Guppengrat on the Vrenelisgärtli (WS or T 6).

The mentioned snowfield on Vrenelisgärtli is the place where according to legend the Vreneli (small Verena ) wanted to create a garden in front of times. The planting up there was a temptation of God, and so it began to snow heavily punished, and that was Vreneli including the bowl, with which it tried to protect against the snow, snowed in and has since remained there. The story is obviously a response to the cooling of temperatures in central Europe from about 1300, as a climate that was warmer than today, was replaced by a considerably colder in several waves ( " Little Ice Age "). The snowfield is actually completely melted in the summer of 2003, but remnants of Vreneli or his bowl have not been found.

Literary reception

The Glärnisch takes place even at Friedrich Schiller in the fourth lift, third scene of William Tell literary mention.
