Glaucosoma magnificum

The Perlbarsche ( Glaucosoma ) are a genus of perch relatives ( Percomorphaceae ). You are monotypic in family Glaucosomatidae. Perlbarsche living in the Indo-Pacific region in a relatively narrow area stretching from Japan to Australia.

Features

Perlbarsche have an oval, laterally flattened, high-backed body with a large head, large eyes and large, sloping upwards gestelltem mouth. The mouth is filled with dense rows of small vorstülpbar and teeth as well as with several prominent fangs. Their dorsal fin has eight hard jets and 11 to 14 soft rays. The anal fin has three hard - and twelve soft rays. Some fin rays of dorsal, anal and caudal fin can be extended thread-like. Perlbarsche be 30 centimeters to 1.2 meters long, have a continuous lateral line and 25 vertebrae.

System

With their closest relatives, the glass or Beilfischen ( Pempheridae ), and other families Perlbarsche form the newly established order Pempheriformes in the recent revision of the teleost systematics.
