Glaxo Wellcome

Glaxo Wellcome was a company that was created by the takeover of the company Burroughs Wellcome & Company by Glaxo in March 1995. In 2000 Glaxo Wellcome has been merged into GlaxoSmithKline.

Glaxo Wellcome was considered one of the 10 largest pharmaceutical companies worldwide. 7 of its products were in the top 50 of best-selling drugs.

In the United Kingdom, the Company had research facilities in Ware and Stevenage in Hertfordshire, Greenford, London and Dartford and Beckenham in Kent. They also had research centers in North Carolina (USA ) and Japan, other locations in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East were planned.

Factories were in Ulverston in Cumbria, Barnard Castle in County Durham, Speke on Merseyside and Montrose in the north - east of Scotland.

The size of the company is mainly due to Sir Richard Sykes, a scientist who has most of the projects conducted by Glaxo.
