Gloria Hooper, Baroness Hooper

Gloria Dorothy Hooper, Baroness Hooper, CMG, DSG, FRSA, FRGS ( born May 25, 1939) is a British lawyer and life peer in the House of Lords.

The daughter of Frederick Hooper and Frances Maloney went to the La Sainte Union Convent High School, Southampton and the Royal Ballet School. She studied at the University of Southampton, where she graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Law and at the Universidad Central del Ecuador, where she was a scholarship from the Rotary Foundation. Antecedents

Hooper was in the years 1960/61, an assistant to the chief archivist of the John Lewis Partnership and 1960-1961 Lecturer at Sweet & Maxwell, Law Publishers. From 1962 to 1967, she was press secretary of the City Council of Winchester and 1967-1972 notary in Taylor and Humbert. By 1973 she was in the law firm Slater Walker France SA and then from 1974 to 1984 a partner at Taylor and Humbert (now Taylor Wessing ).

Political career

As an active member of the Conservative Party Hooper was set up as a candidate in the constituency of Liverpool for the European elections in 1979. It was actually a safe Labour seat, but Hooper won it by a margin of 7227 votes; Your rival candidate Terry Harrison was a member of the Trotskyist wing of Labour. Compared to the five weeks previously held general election, this was the strongest swing to the Conservatives across the country. Hooper could not move again to Parliament in the 1984 European elections.
