God Defend New Zealand
God Defend New Zealand is - equal with God Save the Queen - one of the national anthems of New Zealand.
The English lyrics were written by Thomas Bracken ( 1843-1898 ). The tune was in 1876 by John Joseph Woods ( 1849-1934 ) composed.
On official occasions only the first verse is ( and then only in Māori in English ) sung.
The Māori version, however, is not a direct translation of the English version.
