History

Excavations of a Funnel Beaker Culture zuzuordnendes vessel of the Nordic Deep engraving pottery was found in 1929 in Flötz from the time of Walternienburg - Bernburg culture. This allows the colonization of places Gödnitz and Flötz prove to the Neolithic period.

The slightly elevated position on the edge of the Elbe glacial valley with its natural protection against flooding and flood represented a preferred habitat and led to earlier settlement.

As early as the Iron Age, long before the Slavic settlement of the east of the Elbe area in the 5th and 6th centuries, the places were already colonized by Germans.

The history of farming villages Gödnitz and Flötz was tightly coupled to the east of the Elbe outpost of the German Order, since for German colonization of the Slavic territories. From first recapture experiments of Charlemagne to 805 to the final victory of the German Order in the 11th century were Gödnitz and Flötz probably several times alternately under Slavic and German - Christian rule.

The foundations of the village church in Flötz may well go back to that time. The church was originally created to fortified church and equipped with thick, sturdy walls to withstand the attacks of the pagan Slavs. After the founding of Mission vertex Leitzkau 1114, the over 300 -year-long Christianization of the once pagan area was completed.

974 the Office Walternienburg of Emperor Otto II was given together with Barby to the Quedlinburg Abbey. The Abbey gave Barby with the Office Walternienburg to the Dukes of Saxony which passed on the places to the counts of Barby as a fief. After the extinction of Barbyer prince 1659 the Office, which included, among other towns, the villages and Flötz Gödnitz was taken from Anhalt-Zerbst in possession. As in 1793, the extinct anhaltisch Zerbst line without heirs, came Anhalt -Zerbst, and thus Gödnitz and Flötz at Anhalt-Dessau where at that time Prince Leopold III. , Grandson of the Old Dessauer resided.

After the end of Napoleonic rule and the Congress of Vienna in 1816, the places with the exception of Gödnitz and thorn castle of the newly established province of Saxony were slammed in the Kingdom of Prussia, where they were now on administrative law to the district Jerichow I. However Gödnitz remained with his Gemarkungsgrenze an independent enclave. The village belonged to the circle continues Anhalt -Zerbst, however, was completely surrounded by Prussian territory.

Due to the different administrative and nationality both places could not grow together. It was in the 19th century in Flötz and Gödnitz each have their own school, its own mayor and parishes the local churches ( Evangelical Church of Anhalt, Evangelical Church of the old provinces of Prussia ).

The at Flötz flowing into the lake Gödnitzer panel ditch marked as Gemarkungsgrenze at that time the border between the enclave Gödnitz Anhalt and the Kingdom of Prussia. Even today, massive boundary stones with inscriptions HA ( Duchy of Anhalt) and KP to find ( Kingdom of Prussia ) on board ditch. The Enclave Gödnitz 1939 eventually placed under the administration of the Prussian circle Jerichow I; State law, however, was under Gödnitz continue the circle of Anhalt- Zerbst.

After the Second World War, the territory of the Free State of Anhalt territories of the former province of Saxony was first united to the province of Saxony -Anhalt and Saxony-Anhalt in 1947. 1946 ( Prussian ) communities Flötz, Gehrden, Güterglück, would Ritz, Lübs, Moritz, Schora, Töppel, Prödel and Walternienburg the previous circle Jerichow I have been affiliated with the Anhalt Zerbst district. Thus ended the existing since 1939 supervision of the circle Jerichow over the enclave formerly Anhalt Gödnitz. 1952, the State of Saxony- Anhalt was dissolved; and the community Gödnitz / Flötz was now with the Zerbst part of the East German district of Magdeburg.

With the reunification and the subsequent reforms circle the circle of belonging had not initially changed. The community Gödnitz was previously part of the district of Anhalt- Zerbst and part of the joint management Elbe- Ehle Nuthe based in the city of Zerbst / Anhalt. 2007 has been incorporated into the community Gödnitz in the district of Anhalt -Bitterfeld, due to the adopted resolution of the district of Anhalt- Zerbst.

Remarkable buildings

In the district Flötz is located at the end of the lake road, the St. Catherine's Church. It is a stone church, which dates in its present form with its half-timbered tower of the 14th century. The massive foundations of the former fortified church are probably even older origin.

In the tower are three bells; the oldest is from 1380th Inside there is a late Romanesque baptismal font from the 12th century located with Middle High German inscription, an altar with late Gothic carvings and paintings, a pulpit from 1715 and an organ of the Dessau builder Giese from the year 1865. The masonry was 2004 extensively renovated from the outside. The tower has remained dire need of refurbishment, so that must be dispensed with at the moment on the tolling of the bells.

The Gödnitzer church is recent and obtain structurally better. It has a clock tower in contrast to Flötzer church. The church was founded by Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt and built in 1897. Noteworthy is the carved wooden altar.

From Güterglück over the Moritz district Schora there is a connection to the highway 184 Other road leading towards the north over Lübs and Prödel after Leitzkau and south to Walternienburg (K 1239 ). About Walternienburg and its district Ronney is a greed cable ferry a road link across the Elbe to Barby. The route runs due to the particular location in the flood plain of the river landscape on a railway embankment and crosses at Barby the same. Near Flötz be out the tracks on a bridge over flood otherwise arid area in order to ensure the flow of water masses at high water. Along the railroad tracks led through the flood and Elbebrücke an approximately three-kilometer walk to Barby. This approach could also be driven by bicycle or motorcycle. Until the 90s of the 20th century, this short communication path over the river Elbe by many Flötzern, Gödnitzern and Walt Ernie burgers was gladly used to go regardless of ferry times or high water levels in the nearby small town of Barby in the absence of a road link. The railway line was closed in December 2004.
