Goldsmith Channel

Geographical location

The Goldsmith Channel ( German " Goldsmith - channel ") is a 100 km long strait in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, located in the Arctic Ocean, within the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It separates the Stefansson Island in the north of the members of the Victoria Island Stockerson Peninsula in the south. He connects the Viscount Melville Sound in the north- west with the McClintock Channel to the southeast. The width of the Goldsmith channels decreases funnel shape of Northwest ( about 15 miles) to south-east with only a few hundred meters. The shallow waters in this area includes numerous islands.

The strait is named after the RAF pilots John Goldsmith ( † 2002), who made air from numerous discoveries in the Canadian Arctic.
