Gölsen

Gravel banks of Gölsen

The Gölsen is a right tributary of the Traisen in the Lower Austrian region of Most district. It forms the southern border of the Vienna Woods.

The Gölsen arises in grove field from the confluence of lilacs creek, Gerst creek and Ramsaubaches ( which also called interior Gölsen ), flows through the towns grove box, Rohrbach an der Gölsen, Sankt Veit an der Gölsen and flows Traisen in the Traisen. The only about 15 km long Gölsen flows in an east-west direction and overcomes a difference in altitude of only 90 meters. The river is very heavily engineered because of its recurrent floods ( Gölsendamm, river bottom steps ), a river accompanying floodplain does not exist. However, within the broad riverbed of the river can form gravel bars.

Parallel to the flow of so-called Gölsentalradweg has been created, which leads asphalted from Traisental cycle path to grove box. An extension to Triestingtalradweg the court Berg is planned. In addition, currently, the expansion towards Ramsau takes place. From here the cycle path passes close by at the Araburg and then over the mountain to the court Triestingtalradweg.

Along the Gölsen the Leobersdorfer railway connects the villages Traisen grove and field. Previously, this course was more about Hardly mountain and through the Triestingtal until after Leobersdorf, with connection to the Southern Railway. 2004, however, the regularly scheduled passenger services between field and grove Weissenbach an der Triesting was adjusted.
