Gon (Manga)

Gon (Japaneseゴン) is a manga series of the artist Masashi Tanaka, in which a small, militant Tyrannosaurus rex plays the main role.

Content

The stories take place in the animal kingdom in different regions of the world. The main character is the Tyrannosaurus rex Gon in the form of a gruff, hard-headed but good-hearted babies. As an orphan Gon is the essence of the past, alone among the surrounding animals. He tries to emulate them - make the booty, when building a property - and this is directed by his crude way most unwillingly chaos. Nevertheless, he has a soft heart, his adopted siblings is in and compete against the strongest opponents. He likes to have fun together with other animals and raging through nature. Later enormous violence and manipulation play a greater role against adversaries. The comics are almost completely without language, only the end of an episode, the animals are that have occurred in the episode closer to the reader and called their Latin name.

Publication

In Japan Gon appeared from 1992 to 2002 in separate chapters in the manga magazine Morning. The Kodansha publishing house published this individual chapters in seven anthologies. In Germany four volumes are published by Edition art of comics in the 1990s. They appeared also in Italian or French versions. Some episodes have been reprinted in comic magazines. Since September 2010, the volumes are published in German in Carlsen Comics, so far seven volumes were published.

Awards

In 1997, Masashi Tanaka Gon for the Harvey Award, the 1998 Eisner Award for Best American Edition of a foreign comics and the second Media Arts Award.

Adaptations

In the video game Tekken 3 Gon makes an appearance as a bonus character. In the eponymous video game for the Super Nintendo Gon Gon appears as a main character.

Since April 2, 2012 started on TV Tōkyō and the connected transmitters TV Hokkaido, TV Aichi, TV Osaka, TV Setouchi, and TVQ Kyushu Hoso of 3D computer graphics anime Gon ( GON -ゴン- ), where Gon is spoken by Motoko Kumai.
