Gongkwon Yusul

Gongkwon Yusul ( 공권 유술 ) is a modern Korean martial arts and is translated as " empty ( unarmed ) fist and gentle art ". Gongkwon Yusul was founded in 1996 by Kang Jun and has its roots in Hapkido, Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Ryo Hakko Kyutooki. The system covers all aspects of unarmed combat ( Distance, contact, and ground fighting ), combining several individual techniques to an organic- dynamic, flexible and holistic Selbstverteidungssystem.

Gongkwon Yusul remembered by his open and holistic system of modern western full-contact competitive sports such as mixed martial arts, but is based on a traditional philosophy with ethical principles, uniforms, terminology, and a rank structure.

Dissemination

In South Korea, especially in the Seoul region, already existed shortly after its founding in 1996, several Dojangs. Outside of South Korea Gongkwon Yusul is relatively unknown. However, there are some training facilities located outside of the Asian region. The first was founded in 2006 in Brazil. There followed further in Australia (Melbourne 2007, Launceston 2008, Gold Coast 2008, Brisbane 2009), Spain (2009) and Germany (2010).

Techniques

Gongkwon Yusul has a wide range of techniques that can be divided into as follows.

  • Attack techniques ( Takyeokgi ) In principle, all parts of the body are exploited to attack. This means both punches and kicks, elbow and knee joints in different variations.

Rank system

The rank system illustrated here refers to the system of student grades in Germany. With a regular practice, at least 3 - 4 times a week, a check to the next higher belt color after about three months is possible. For the 1st Dan a training period of at least six months is specified.
