Gordon Jackson (politician)

Gordon Jackson, QC (* August 5, 1946 in Saltcoats ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party. Jackson attended Ardrossan Academy and studied law at the University of St Andrews. He was initially working for several years as a solicitor and was then appointed as full-fledged lawyer. In 1990 he became Attorney-General and is considered one of the highest paid lawyers in Scotland.

Scottish Parliament

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Jackson was a candidate for the constituency of Glasgow Govan and won the mandate against Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP. He subsequently moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 Jackson defended his mandate. Finally Sturgeon won the constituency for itself in the parliamentary elections of 2007. Jackson did not start on the parliamentary elections of 2011.

About Jackson is reported that the exercise of his profession as a lawyer evoked the often time conflicts with the parliamentary work. This earned him the nickname " Cracker Jack ." Background is the temporal setting for votes in the Scottish Parliament at 17 clock. At various Voters Jackson appeared only against 16:55 clock in the Chamber, which corresponded to the regular broadcast date of the television series Cracker Jack.
