Gorj County

Gorj is a Romanian county ( Judet ) in the Walachia region, with the county town of Târgu Jiu. Its common abbreviation and the license plate are GJ.

The Gorj county is bordered on the north by the Hunedoara county, likewise in the north and in the east by the county of Vâlcea, to the south by the Dolj county, in southwest and the west by the county Mehedinţi and to the northwest by the District Caras -Severin.

Demography

In 2002, the county 387 407 inhabitants and a population density of 69 inhabitants per km ².

2011 had the Gorj county 341 594 inhabitants, thus a population density of 61 inhabitants per km ².

Geography

The county has a total area of ​​5602 km ², equivalent to 2.34 % of the area of Romania. In the southwestern part of Romania located, the Gorj county in the north of the historical region of Lesser Wallachia is located south of the Southern Carpathians.
