Görmeli is a village on the slopes of the Taurus Mountains to the southeast from Ermenek in the Turkish province of Karaman. It consists of the six districts Boyalık, Tekke, Kışla, Tuztaşı, Köyyakası and NISA. The center is Tuztaşı.

Geographical location

The village is situated on the main street of Ermenek after Gülnar and is about 18 km from Ermenek and 90 km from the important tourist places in the Mediterranean region in Anamur. The place is located in a mountainous and wooded area. Due to the sufficient rainfall and good soil many different vegetables and fruits can be grown. The place is traditionally dominated by agriculture.

History

The exact time of the original settlement Görmelis is unknown, it is believed that the village dates back to a relocation of Adana by the Beylik the Karamanids several centuries ago. The bridge Ala Köprü (also Görmel Köprüsü ) is located about 5 km away and is returned to the Karamanids. The bridge can surely be described as a remarkable achievement that time with a length of 27 m and a width of 4.70 m, but is sinking into the Ermenek Reservoir under construction.

In addition, there is the historical building of the castle Mennan in the district of NISA. Mennan means Secure site in German. The castle was built with accurately cut stone on a steep rock. This castle conquered Karamanoğlu for the Ottoman Gedik Ahmet Pasha, whereupon probably Pir Ahmet Bey in the castle committed suicide. The castle is in a poor state, which is mainly attributable to treasure hunters.

Culture

In Görmeli you can enjoy the traditional dish Batırma. It consists of small pieces of wheat, tomatoes, pepper, parsley, sesame seeds and walnuts. These ingredients are mixed and kneaded with cold water. It is served with fresh peppers, cucumbers, boiled cabbage, eggplant, tomatoes and boiled grape leaves. Another traditional dish, called Tarhana. It is made with minced meat and potatoes. The ingredients are mixed with wheat flour, tomato paste, onions, pepper and parsley. This dough is kneaded, then pieces are shaped by hand and roasted on charcoal.

Economy

Most inhabitants live from the cultivation and sale of fruit and vegetables, dairy farming and livestock. The grapes of Görmeli are known, there are many vineyards, but also apples, figs, walnuts and pomegranates are grown. Each family also has animals, some goats, a cow and chickens. In recent years, vaccinated, special Obstbaumschößlinge were planted in the higher parts of the town.
