Göte Wälitalo

Gothenburg Emil Wälitalo ( born July 18, 1956 in Kiruna ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender and current coach.

Career

Gothenburg Wälitalo began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Kiruna AIF for the first team, he was active from 1973 to 1980. With the goalkeeper Kiruna in 1973/74 rose in his rookie year, the season of Division 1, the highest at this time Swedish league, in the second class from Division 2. From 1975 to 1980 he performed with Kiruna in after founding the professional league Elitserien only second-rate Division 1. For the 1980/81 season, he joined the Elitserien participants IF Björklöven. With this he won the Swedish championship title in the 1986/87 season. He was the goalkeeper with the lowest Gegentorschnitt the Elitserien. This was before him already succeeded in the 1982/83 season. Following the 1989/90 season, the Swede ended his active career at the age of 34 years.

In 2001 Wälitalo worked as an assistant coach of the Swedish U18 Junior National Team. Since 2005 he is a goalkeeper coach at his old club IF Björklöven.

Internationally

For Sweden Wälitalo participated in the World Championships in 1983 and 1983. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, as well as 1981 and 1984 at the Canada Cup. At the Winter Games in 1984 he won the bronze medal with his team.
