Gottfried Haberler

Gottfried Haberler ( born July 20, 1900 in Purkersdorf; † 6 May 1995 Washington, DC until 1919 by Haberler ) was an Austrian economist.

Haberler taught at the London School of Economics and later at the U.S. Harvard University. He developed along with Arthur Spiethoff the economic stimulus phase model, in addition, he dealt with international trade. From 1950 he was the first president of the International Economic Association. In 1980 he was awarded the international Antonio Feltrinelli Prize.

In London, David Rockefeller was one of his students. After his testimony Haberler was " reputed to be an ardent defender of free trade. In the 1930s, as nations around the world in the siren song matched by protectionism, his ideas were ignored, but they had a big effect, as international trade after the Second World War expanded and global economic growth rose dramatically. "
