The path should be committed only in season from mid-June to end of October, as it is snow and ice only during this period. The refuges ( refuges ) of the Natural Park along the hiking trail are typically staffed from early June to late September with a keeper ( gardien ). Previously, the hiker on her way had to supply themselves with food because the remote location of the mountain huts for overnight stays allowed only a limited supply of food ( meats, cheeses, sweets). This has changed to 2005. All cabins offer drinks and hot meals. Even the mountains Ries (shepherds ), which are located at the edge of the GR 20, offer some of the accommodations and all meals. From the end of September, the food options are limited, as the mountains Ries close and also some huts are managed only to a limited extent.

Since May 2009 applies to all walkers along the GR 20, a reservation request for overnight stays in the shelters and the rented tents ( bivouacs ). Nights in your tent must not be registered - Stand Fall 2013.

The hallmark of the way are one white and one red stripes painted on rocks and on trees at eye level. In other places, cairns help to keep the road in mind.
