Grabina, Łódź East County

Grabina is a village in Poland, in the region of Łódź. The place belongs to Gmina Nowosolna.

Place name

The place name " Grabina " means " White Paper Forest ".

History

Around 1795 - the area was two years before entering the second partition of Poland as a part of South Prussia Prussia - was the place Grabina founded by German settlers. Although much later founding dates are given in the literature (1802 and 1825), but already in 1795, the Catholic Church Book of Stare Skoszewy the first two entries from Grabina on ( a Protestant church did not exist in the region, so that the were recorded church services in the nearest Catholic church). However, the majority of the settlers seems to have arrived only in autumn 1799, since at that time the number of religious ceremonies from Grabina rises abruptly. The population of the town came by origin from Pomerania.

In 1807, the region became part of the newly created Duchy of Warsaw, and from 1815 it belonged to the Kingdom of Poland.

In 1825 there were 16 settlers in Grabina points with 130 inhabitants (including domestics ), ten years later, there were 17 hearths, of which only 15 were occupied by settlers. These 15 settlers saw the addition of 57 members. Depending on whether the two vacancies were actually occupied or free with Polish peasants, this results in a total estimated population of 94-106 people, with the servants accounted for about 30 % of the rural population. At this time the village belonged, together with Załęże Skoszewy, Głogowiec, Boginia, Skoszewka and Głąbie, where also lived German settlers, the basic rule Warszewice.

In 1838 the parish was Grabina in the newly established Protestant parish Nowosolna ( previously was the site either in the parish or Brzeziny Zgierz ).

From 1859 to 1954 Grabina belonged to the gmina (municipality ) Dobra.

In 1865 there were in Grabina a school that over the period of its existence, nothing is further known.

During the First World War, the city was right in the combat zone of the Battle of Łódź. Whether people died or homes were damaged is not known.

1935 lived in Grabina still about 80 German.
