Grain race

Wheat regattas were racing with tall ships and were discharged from Australia to Europe. In these races, it was mainly about the fame, the prestige and honor of the ship on which continued the sailor. To encourage a quick trip home to charge a premium has been paid by the individual lines for the fastest trip home. After loading with wheat in the ports of the Spencer Gulf, the ships had at the same time take the race in June of this year. Mandatory for the trip home to Europe was the way to Cape Horn ( South America).

The last of the wheat Regatta via Cape Horn for merchant ships under sail took place in 1949. The ships were the Passat and the Pamir.
