Graisse

Graisse is an ancient white grape variety that is grown in the wine region of Sud -Ouest in the southwest of France. She was admitted in the department of Gers, Haute -Garonne and Tarn -et -Garonne for commercial viticulture, but is rarely used. In 1998, an area under vines was charged by under 30 hectares after in 1958 were still 2,755 hectares under income. In Sud- Ouest, the variety appears frequently in the mixed set.

The white wines are light, very basic and have a strong acid. A subordinate role of the grape in the production of Armagnac. While the variety is not cultivated in Tunisia, smaller stocks in Algeria are yet known.

No clones have been released for the wine yet.

A study published in 2007 study suggests that the variety Graisse is genetically closely related to a number of local varieties of the Sud-Ouest region and forms with them a vine family (eg Blancard, Claverie, Claverie coulard, Cruchen faux, Cruixen and Crouchen ). It originates from the old vine Gouais Blanc. The other parent is unknown.
