Grasă de Cotnari

Grasa de Cotnari is a Romanian white wine, which usually comes as a sweet dessert wine, but occasionally semisweet in the trade. It is made from late-harvested, partially rosinierten and botrytis ideally grapes of white vine Grasa in admixture with other white grape musts, in particular the Fetească Alba. Region of origin of this famous Romanian wine, which was very popular for a long time in Europe and overseas, is the wine region in north- eastern Romania Cotnari, near the border with Moldova. The vineyard has a very long, at least to the Middle Ages standing tradition and is known primarily for its sweet wines. With the general decline in demand for sweet wines after the Second World War and by poor winemaking during the communist era in Romania and the Grasa de Cotnari became internationally largely forgotten. Even today, he is in the national retailers rarely available, although the qualities offered have improved substantially in recent years.
