The Great Western Highway is a highway in the eastern part of the Australian state of New South Wales. It combines the Harris Street / Regent Street in Ultimo in downtown Sydney with the Mid - Western Highway, the Mitchell Highway, Bathurst - Ilford Road and O'Connell Road in Bathurst.

Course

The road begins as Broadway at Harris Street / Regent Street to the west of the main station in Sydney's district Ultimo, leads west and Parramatta Road. In the Summer Hill neighborhood she takes on the coming of the West Hume Highway (Liverpool Road, S31). And bends to the northwest. In the Five Dock area it takes to come from the east City West Link at (Met -4) and turn back to the west. From the district Homebush the Western Motorway (Met -4 ) north of the Great Western Highway runs parallel to West North west to Parramatta. There, the two roads again turn to the west.

In both Eastern Creek roads cross the Westlink (M7 ) and just before Penrith The Northern Road (Met -9). The Great Western Highway runs through the town and crosses immediately after the Nepean River. On the west bank, in Emu Plains, the Western Motorway (Met -4 ) opens again.

Further, the road runs through the Blue Mountains. Passing Katoomba and Lithgow crosses the highway, the Great Dividing Range and ends in Bathurst. From there, the Mitchell Highway ( R32) leads to the northwest, the Mid- Western Highway (R24 ) to the west, the Bathurst - Ilford Road to the north and O'Connell Road to the southeast.
