Greenland's Grand Canyon

As Grand Canyon of Greenland is called by the journal Science a 2013 discovered in Greenland Canyon.

Background

In the issue dated 30 August 2013, the magazine, researchers from the University of Bristol, the University of Calgary and the University of Urbino reported had the canyon described as " mega- Canyon ". The canyon was the Ice- penetrating radar data from NASA discovered as part of "Operation IceBridge ." Images showed a huge canyon under the Greenland ice sheet.

Course

The more than 750 km long, up to 800 meters deep and 10 kilometers wide canyon extends from the middle of Greenland northward into the Arctic Ocean to the inlet of the Petermann Glacier. Due to the V-shape, the scientists suspect that he has been shaped by flowing water.
