Greg Van Avermaet (born 17 May 1985 in Lokeren ) is a Belgian racing cyclist.

Career

Van Avermaet won the 2005 Hasselt Hasselt spa and a stage of the triptyque des Barrages ( U23 ). In 2006 he came to the Belgian Continental team Bodysol - Win for Life - Jong Vlaanderen. This season he won several small Belgian one-day races and also celebrated his greatest success to date: to win the Belgian U23 Championships in the road race.

As of the 2007 season, Van Avermaet went for the Belgian ProTeam Predictor -Lotto at the start. In the Tour of Qatar, the Belgian won his first international success at the 5th stage. His only previous stage win at one of the three Grand Tours, he was able to record on September 8, 2008, when he won the sprint of a breakaway group for on the 9th stage of the Vuelta a España from Vielha to Sabinanigo. In addition, Van Avermaet also won the points classification in this tour.

In 2011, he joined the Swiss-American BMC Racing Team, scoring as Sprint winner of a breakaway duo at the classic Paris -Tours his biggest success.

Trivia

He is the brother of Glenn D' Hollander, his former teammate at Silence-Lotto.
