Gregg Rolie

Gregg Rolie ( born June 17, 1947 in Seattle, Washington) is an American keyboardist, organist and singer. He was a founding member of the bands Santana, Journey, The Storm, and Abraxas Pool, and currently leads the Gregg Rolie band. In 1965, he also played at least once at a high school dance the Serra High School in San Mateo, California with the band William Penn and his Pals.

Career as a musician

Rolie joined Carlos Santana end of 1966 to team up with other musicians, the Santana Blues Band, whose name later was shortened to Santana. Rolie had part in the first wave of Santana's success (including Samba Pa Ti). He joined with Santana at the Woodstock Festival on ( Woodstock Music and Art Festival) and appeared on several hit albums (eg Abraxas, 1971 and Caravanserai, 1972). Finally Rolie but left the band because of constant disagreements over the musical direction of the end of 1971. He went to Seattle, opened together with his father, a restaurant, but did not run well.

Rolie was hired in 1973, the new band of ex- Santana guitarist Neal to close early; this band called Journey. The band consisted except Rolie from Schon, Aynsley Dunbar, George Tickner, and Ross Valory. It created the albums Journey, Look into the Future, Infinity and departure. At the beginning of the band's history, he was the lead singer and keyboard player, but when Steve Perry joined the band, he was increasingly pushed into the background vocals.

After leaving Journey in 1980, published Rolie several solo albums, including 1985 's self-titled album Gregg Rolie. This album contains the song I Wanna Go Back, who later became a hit for Eddie Money. Rolie was supported for this album by Carlos Santana, Peter Wolf, Neal Schon, and Craig Chaquico. A second solo album Gringo appeared in 1987.

Rolie founded in 1991 along with Steve Smith, Ross Valory, Josh Ramos and Kevan Chalfant, whose voice resembles that of Steve Perry, the band The Storm. Their self-titled album came in at number three on the Billboard album charts, the outcoupling I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love in the top ten of the singles charts. Despite this initial success, the second album recorded in 1993 was a slow-moving, as the music industry turned to the taste of the public for rap and alternative music. It was launched in 1996, only limited. End of the 90 established Rolie and Neal, the band Abraxas Pool. Published in 2001, Rolie Roots with another solo album.

Rolie has been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Santana band.

Charitable commitment

Rolie promotes musical education of children. In 2005, he signed as an official supporter of Little Kids Rock for the non-profit organization that provides free instruments and lessons to children in public schools throughout the United States are available. He is an honorary member and director on the board of the organization.
