Gregorio Aznárez (also: Gregorio Aznares ) is a village in Uruguay.

Geography

It is located in the area of ​​Maldonado Department in its sector 5 Gregorio Aznárez lies in the southwestern part of the department near the border of Canelones. Not far to the west runs the Arroyo Solís Grande. In the south of the Río de la Plata and the present there Solís resort is situated.

History

To 1895/1896 arose with the Estación La Sierra, the first station of the railway line on the ground, was the last station in the east of the country at that time. After the sugar refinery Oriental was founded in 1891 by immigrants Félix Giraud and Gregorio Aznárez end of the 19th century in the area acquired 3000 acres of land, began to turn of the century there sugar beet cultivation. The construction of a sugar factory was followed by the now beginning in 1902, the first settlement of sugar production in the following year. In the first half of the second decade of the 20th century, the city grew and was built both a school and a police post. Until the mid- 1920s, already about a hundred tenants had settled with their families in the vicinity. After 1941 two more schools were created, one built in 1950 and also a church. Six years later met the first Junta Local. By Law No. 12.630 (Ley 12.630 ) Gregorio Aznárez was granted the status of Pueblo on September 22, 1959. In 1971 the place then received its own cemetery. Culture
