Frier Fjord
The Grenlandsbrua is a road bridge in the south of the Norwegian county of Telemark, which spans halfway between Oslo and Kristiansand to Frier Fjord between the municipalities of Porsgrunn and Bamble.
Description
Opened by King Harald V. 1996 bridge is part of the European Route 18, which has been completely re-created in this area to relieve the older, 1 km further east past Breviksbrua than two-lane, crossing-free, motorway-like route. A total of 608 m long and the fjord with a clear height of 50 m above crossing Grenlandsbrua located just north immediately adjacent to the 2.2 km long tunnel Kjerholt; begins the 760 m long tunnel Bamble after a few meters at its southern end.
She has two lanes with narrow lateral stripes, but no sidewalk and is therefore only 12 m wide.
The asymmetric cable bridge has to wear a 166 m high, H-shaped reinforced concrete pylon on the north shore, the cable stays on one side of the bridge deck above the main opening with a span of 305 m. The only 67 m long side opening on the other side is supported by two ropes on either side of the bridge deck. It ends directly at the tunnel portal. The rest of the stay cables are anchored in sloping hillside above the tunnel entrance behind striking concrete structures in rock.
The bridge deck is a composite construction of a steel trapezoidal hollow box with a lid from a concrete slab with edge beams, in which guyed part of a special lightweight concrete (LC 55) was used. At the main opening is 4 close to each 48 m long fields and an end panel with 44 m, which are supported by concrete pillars.
The Grenlandsbrua was designed by the engineering firm Carrion Jakobson in collaboration with the architects Lund & Slaatto and Lunde & Løvseth and awards with the Betongtavlen.
The pylon was - after a series of radio masts and towers - Norway's tallest structure, but has since been replaced by the pylons of the Hardanger Bridge.
