Gressenberg until the end of 2014 a municipality with 295 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Germany in Styria. As part of the Styrian community structure reform, it is merged in 2015 with the communities of Swan Mountain, Hollenegg and Garanas, the new community will continue to bear the name of Swan Mountain. This is based on the Styrian community structure reform law - StGsrG.

Geography

Location

The community Gressenberg lies in the region Sulmtal - Koralpe and consists of the cadastral Gressenberg. Most important town in the municipality is glassworks. The municipality is crossed by the Black Sulm and the Stullneggbach. The municipality extends at an altitude 430-1975 meters. Most important surveys are the fire height 1886 meters and the Mosch Peak with 1916 meters.

History

Early History of the

Was first documented Gressenberg 1428 in a deed of the Archbishop of Salzburg. This gave Friedrich von Pettau, supreme Marshal of Styria, 44 Huben size mountain. Another surviving mention of the borough's name originates in 1447 from the rental certificate for the knight Hans Spang stone surrounded by Frederick III. was entrusted with the management of the castle and dominion Swan Mountain. However Gressenberg belonged in the 11th or 12th century to the reign Swan Mountain, which had been formed by merging archbishop area with possessions of the Bishopric of Brixen.

The Spang stone castle above the Stullneggraben was probably built in the mid- 13th century. After several changes of ownership between Swan Mountain and Germany mountain the ruins of the castle and the associated goods went to the related counts of Trautmann village.

Upturn in the glass industry

Enjoying the forest wealth and the quartz deposits of the Kor developed in Gressenberg a significant glass industry. For the first time a glassworks in the village was mentioned in documents in 1621. Special upturn experienced the glassworks under glass Hüttemeister Pusch man. 1724 moved to the glassworks of Saurau to the site of the present inn. The wood used has led to clear-cutting changes, which in turn gave rise to pasture for livestock. However, since the government soon implemented measures against the wood waste and inefficiencies and the conversion were added to coal operation, the glassworks were in the mountainous regions soon unprofitable. Therefore, in 1738, the operation in glassworks was set.

After setting the glass industry has been trying to exploit the forests located far away from the roadways for charcoal production and potash extraction on. In the 20th century the church was located on the southern supply route to Forest Railway Germany Berg, who served the wood transport to the sawmill town of Germany and their mountain route in the terrain (partly availed as Wirtschaftsweg ) is still recognizable.

The community division

Originally belonged to the municipality Gressenberg the cadastral Garanas and upper Fresen. 1868, however, a separate municipality was formed under the name Garanas. Due to the difficult economic situation in the 19th century it came into Gressenberg to a farm death that caused a Entsiedlungswelle 1861-1870 and 1891-1930. The population numbers were declining over time more and more and are still declining.

The municipality had 2001 352 inhabitants according to the census. 98.9 % had Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church 95.5 % of the population known, 2.3% had no religious persuasion.

The population of the municipality Gressenberg walked rapidly back for more than 100 years. With the exception of a brief period in the interwar period, the number of community citizens declined steadily and 1869-2001, the population went down by almost 50%.

Culture and sights

Parish Church of Holy Name of Mary in the glassworks

The parish church of Holy Name of Mary in the glassworks was built between 1767-1769 by Landsberger master mason Anton lovers ride. The Baroque high altar dates from the first half of the 18th century.

Geopark glassworks

In the village glassworks is a show of the Rocks ( Geopark ) of the Kor: the Geopark glassworks, also with rock samples from the exploratory tunnel of the planned Koralm tunnel. Based on theme paths traces of the historical glass factories can be tracked.

The community Gressenberg is also hub of the hiking trail project Koralm crystal and is located on the European long-distance hiking trail E6.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are ten workplaces with 20 or more employees in the community, with half in the hospitality industry and in the accommodation being found work. Furthermore, the community has 102 commuters and seven commuters. There are 54 agricultural and forestry holdings ( 23 of which are in the main acquisition ), which together manage 1713 ha ( 1999).

The wine level with the Handalm in northwestern Gressenberg is one of those areas where according to the rules on spatial planning wind turbines could be built. It is reported as a " priority zone " in which the wind supply would make great achievements possible.

Policy

Parish council

In the local elections in 2005, it came in the municipality Gressenberg to a change of power. The Austrian People's Party lost its absolute majority and slipped from 55.61 % to 32.91 %, respectively. Of the original five seats, the ÖVP could thus defend only three seats. Most benefited from the losses of the SPÖ, the ÖVP passed with 38.46 % and was 16.5% down. Mandate default, the SPÖ could thus doubled from two to four seats. The FPÖ was able to gain about 6%, but their not submitted their 28.63 % for a growth mandate.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Gressenberg up on a blue sign above the other two diagonally crossed, golden glass makers Pipe dar. In the golden head of the shield protrude three mountains, the middle dome is topped with a golden lily. The remaining blue crest part is sprinkled with golden cress leaves. The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 October 1989.
