The Grob Aircraft AG, headquartered in Tussenhausen in the district of Lower Allgäu is one of the world's leading manufacturers of aircraft from composite materials. The company developed the G180 Grob SPn, the first fully manufactured in carbon fiber reinforced plastic business jet in the world.

History

Originally the aircraft production under the name Burkhart Grob Aerospace GmbH & Co. KG, later Grob Aerospace GmbH ran. The one with the takeover by Fortius SME Capital AG in the present name Grob Aircraft AG (CEO was the former EADS manager Johann Heitzmann, current CEO is André Hiebeler ) renamed aircraft manufacturer in Tussenhausen is license holder for the coarse - aircraft ( except coarse SPn), and is the property of H3 Aerospace GmbH & Co. KG.

Burkhart Grob Aerospace

From 1971 onwards, the license- Aerospace GmbH & Co. KG, which was then part of the Grob-Werke began more than 200 gliders of the type Schempp-Hirth Cirrus by Burkhart Grob. Starting in 1973, was then begun with the production of the first own aircraft, the G 102 Astir. Soon after, the two-seater developed from G 103 Twin Astir and the power - seater G followed 104 Speed Astir.

In 1974, the aircraft factory was established at the aerodrome Mindelheim - Mattsies in Tussenhausen - Mattsies near Mindelheim. The Munich location was abandoned in 1976. In 1980, the daily production was 1.5 in rough planes was determined by about half for export.

Beginning of the 1980s began with coarse aerospace manufacturing motor-powered aircraft, the first of the touring motor glider G 109A was. One problem was the low for the comparatively heavy plastic constructions of power then available engines, which ultimately led to the development of the coarse -2500 engine with 90 hp, which was used in the 1983 -built G 109B. In addition, there were numerous other developments by external companies ( such as the company Korff ), the 90 to 130 hp Limbach aircraft engines adapted to the G 109, so these are also suitable for low-cost aircraft towing Start of gliders.

In 1993, the involvement of the company in the so-called coarse Amigo affair became public. In this bribery scandal was, among other things Max Streibl, the then Prime Minister of Bavaria and friend of Burkhart Grob, involved. Max Streibl was alleged to have been used illegally by the Federal Ministry of Defense for the award of the contract for the electronic warfare system LAPAS to the company Grob. Furthermore, it should Streibl have surreptitiously high air flow for coarse at the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology and the State Institute for construction financing. These allegations are unproven to this day. Previously coarse had financed two holidays Streibls to Brazil and Kenya, as well as provide him with political donations. As a result, the Amigo affair Max Streibl resigned due to the intra-party and public pressure in 1993.

In July 2005, started with the G180 SPn the world's first business jet manufactured entirely in carbon fiber reinforced plastic for its maiden flight.
