Gross Furkahorn

The United Furkahorn is a 3'169 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Southern Alps of Uri, north of the Furka pass. Over its peak is the boundary of the Swiss cantons of Uri and Valais.

Geographical location

The United Furkahorn lies in a plane extending from north to south mountain range that pulls down from the Galenstock to the Furka pass. Direct northern neighbor is the Sidelenhorn, south of Sidelengrat via the Sidelengratlücke ( 2'958 m above sea level. M. ) for small Furkahorn. West is the Rhone glacier, to the east falls, a burr from the Sidelengletscher. The south wall is divided into steep discontinuous bands of debris disks, the so-called foot of the wall plates. The actual summit consists of three rocky crags.

Summit routes

The normal route leads from the Hotel Belvédère on the edge of the Rhone Glacier in the western flank of this in a gap south of the summit and easy climbing ( II -III. Degrees) to the summit. A frequently committed climbing tour in the IV Difficulty runs across the east-southeast ridge. The route is equipped with bolts. More numerous Plaisir climbing routes in different difficulties and lengths are located in the foot of the wall plates.
