Großgörschen is a district of the town Lützen in Burgenland district, in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geography

Großgörschen is located about 6 km southeast of Lutzen between Leipzig and White Rock, as well as between the mining areas of Zwenkau and Profen. Surrounded the community with its four districts of agricultural land. The eastern boundary of the municipality is also the border with Saxony.

History

Belonging to Großgörschen vilage are Slavic -ups from around the year 600 The oldest written mention dates back to 1277. At the time of the Wettin Margrave Dietrich of Landsberg sold to the Bishop of the Bishopric of Merseburg Frederick I of Torgau the judgment seat Eisdorf together with all the added belonging to varieties for 300 silver marks. In the 15th century, the fortress built to guard tower was extended with a nave and converted into a first Catholic church. 1542 the first Protestant church in Großgörschen was celebrated.

In Großgörschen the first battle of the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon took place in May 1813.

On January 1, 2010, the formerly independent communities Großgörschen, Muschwitz, Poserna, Rippach and Starsiedel merged with the city of Lützen Lützen to the new city.

Attractions

The tower of the village church was originally built in 1150 as a fortress tower for Frankish settlers.

Worth seeing is the Village Museum, there is, among others, a diorama with a miniature of the Battle of Großgörschen to see (May 1813). From the Monarch hill in the south of the village have the Tsar Alexander I and the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. this battle observed.

In the east Großgörschens is a windmill from the 18th century.
