Grupo Abril

The Grupo Abril is a Brazilian media company, and was started by Victor Civita in 1950 in São Paulo under the name Editora Abril and is now the largest publishing house in South America. The group is now led by his son Roberto Civita, chief of the Board and at the same time since 1968 Editorial Director. Flagship publication is the news magazine Veja. The women's magazines are dominant. Other publications include the renowned football magazine Placar as well as the Brazilian editions of international titles such as Cosmopolitan and Playboy.

History

It all began in the metropolis of Sao Paulo, as the Italian-American Victor Civita with no more than a half-dozen employees brought out the first publication of " Pato Donald " ( Donald Duck). Civita named his company " Abril " ( German: April ), because in Europe starting this month of spring. The logo was a green tree, symbol of growth, the nucleus of life and a sign of fertility, hope and optimism. Seven out of ten magazines in Brazil come from the printing presses of the Abril Group, including the "flagship" of the group, the magazine Veja, the third-largest weekly news magazine in the world and the largest outside the United States. As the weekly print edition of Veja offers current information on developments in Latin America and around the globe in the fields of politics, economy and culture, while the website veja.com 2.2 million unique visitors and 22.1 million page views per month (2010) recorded.

Even in textbooks is Abril market leader in Brazil. Around 38 million of which were printed in 2010.
