Gu Yong-ju

Gu Yong -ju ( born July 17, 1955) is a former boxer from North Korea and Olympic champion in the bantamweight title in 1976.

The 1.72 m wide Gu Yong -ju won the gold medal in the flyweight at the 7th Asian Games in Tehran in 1974. In 1976, he launched bantamweight at the 21th Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, where in the first round Ibrahim Faredin of Romania 4-1, in the second round of the European Championship runner- Chacho Andreykowski from Bulgaria 5-0, in the quarterfinals Weerachart Saturngrun from Thailand it 5-0, in the semifinals Patrick Cowdell from Great Britain 4-1 in the final and Charles Mooney from the USA defeated 5-0 and thus won the gold medal in the bantamweight.

In 1977, he won another gold medal in the featherweight at the International Police Championships in Ulaanbaatar, as well as the bronze medal at the Asian Championships the same year in Jakarta.

At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, he started at featherweight and was defeated in his first battle against the eventual bronze medalist Krzysztof Kosedowski from Poland.
