Guillermo Jones

Guillermo Jones ( born May 5, 1972 in Colón, Panama ) is a professional boxer from Panama.

Professional career

Guillermo Jones began his professional career in 1993 in the welterweight division, the weight to 66.7 kg. After 21 victorious battles he lost in September 1997 against David Noel from Trinidad and Tobago by KO in the second round, took revenge for this defeat, however, in direct rematch when he defeated Noel by TKO in the first round. Jones then punched on 13 February 1998 against Laurent Boudouani from France to the WBA light middleweight championship. The fight ended in a controversial draw, so that here a direct rematch was scheduled, in which Jones on 30 May 2008 also controversial subject again on points.

As a result, Jones jumped over several weight classes and boxed mainly from 2002 cruiserweight, the class up to 90.7 kg. On November 23, 2002, he kicked the WBO champion Johnny Nelson and punched a second time only controversial draw. Towards the later IBF champion Steve Cunningham he lost in April 2005, just barely on points, but defeated in the same year, the two former world champion Kelvin Davis and Wayne Braithwaite in each case by technical knockout in round four. On September 27, 2008 Guillermo Jones defeated Hamburg in the hitherto reigning WBA world champion Firat Arslan in a one-sided duel by technical knockout in the tenth round after the referee broke off the fight due to clear superiority.

After winning the title, he remained for two years inactive, so that the WBA announced in August 2010, deprive him the title if he should pass no title defense. Jones subsequently went on October 2, 2010 in Panama City against the Russians Valeri Brudow and won by technical knockout in the eleventh round after the fight was stopped by the referee due to lacerations on Brudows eyes.

In October 2012 he was finally stripped of the title, as he had since his title win in 2008 denied only two defenses and an already scheduled fight futures canceled again due to an alleged violation. Then interim world champion Denis Lebedev by the WBA has been appointed as the new champion. On May 17, 2013, won against Lebedev by KO in the eleventh round and thus regained the WBA title.
