Wayne Braithwaite
Wayne Braithwaite ( born August 9, 1975 in Georgetown / Guyana ) is a professional boxer and former world cruiserweight champion.
Professional
1997 Braithwaite won his first professional fight by TKO in round 4 On July 25, 1998, he won his first small then title. Wayne Braithwaite was cruiserweight champion of Guyana. Half a year later, he was already in his seventh professional fight world cruiserweight champion in the rather insignificant association WBB. In the same year (1999) he was then still WBC international champion. NABF champion he was in 2000. In this fight he had to defend his WBC International belt. Braithwaite won by TKO in round 8 against the highly assessed Dale Brown.
October 11, 2002 Braithwaite then won the vacant WBC World Championship has become cruiserweight belt. In the tenth round of the fight was canceled. The next two title defenses in 2003 were terminated prematurely, once in the fourth and again in the first round. On April 17, 2004 Braithwaite won again, this time by unanimous decision. A whole year passed before he climbed into the ring again. A title unification took place. Wayne Braithwaite, the cruiserweight champion after version of the WBC, against the WBA champion Jean -Marc Mormeck. Mormeck narrowly won on points. It was the first defeat for Braithwaite in his 22nd professional fight.
5 months later Braithwaite lost prematurely against Guillermo Jones in the fight for the WBA Fedelatin and the WBC Latino cruiserweight title. Then Braithwaite resigned from boxing.
On February 3, 2007 he made his comeback. Wayne Braithwaite won by TKO in round 7 and in the very next fight he was allowed to fight again for the WBO belt. No chance he lost to his opponent Enzo Maccarinelli, which thus remained world champion. 29 March 2008 Braithwaite boxed again for the WBA and the WBC Latino Fedelatin title. Titlist Yoan Pablo Hernández was the unbeaten. After KO in the third round Braithwaite won the fight and was therefore new WBA Fedelatin and WBC Latino cruiserweight champion.
