Jean-Marc Mormeck
Jean -Marc Mormeck ( born June 3, 1972 in Pointe -à- Pitre, Guadeloupe ) is a French boxer.
Professional career
Mormeck was pro in 1995 at light heavyweight and already lost two of his first five fights on points. His first success was winning the French league title in the light heavyweight division in November 1998.
In 2001, he boxed at cruiserweight. On February 23, 2002, he challenged the WBA titlist Virgil Hill in Marseille. He dominated the Americans and eventually led him to give up the fight after the eighth round. Hill was also tested following positive for steroids. After two title defenses came in May 2004 in South Africa for rematch with Hill, the Mormeck also, though just barely on points, could decide for themselves.
He then aimed at the unification of the major titles in the weight class. The rematch with Bell for the WBA and WBC title was held on 17 March 2007 in France and was won by Mormeck on points. However, he lost his title on November 10, 2007 in France by technical knockout in round seven to David Haye after he had this in the fourth round at the bottom. After the fight, Mormeck ended his career for the time being.
On 18 December 2009 he returned successfully in the boxing ring, this time in the heavyweight division. In his first fight in this weight class of the American Vinny Maddalone defeated in eight rounds on points.
